Overview

Canon U.S.A., Inc. is currently seeking a qualified Counsel level transactional attorney, with technology contract, data security and privacy expertise, to join the Corporate Legal Division in its Melville, NY Headquarters.
 
This position is full time and offers a hybrid work schedule requiring you to be in the office Monday and Wednesday and an option to work from home the remainder of the week (unless a specific business need arises requiring in office attendance on other days).  Note that work schedules and office reporting requirements may change from time to time based on business needs.

Responsibilities

- Draft, review and negotiate technology, software license, subscription, non-disclosure, consulting, service and event-related agreements, and other commercial and transactional documents, for various business groups and affiliates
- Manage processes and projects with regards to technology, data security and privacy law and practice, using a working knowledge of:  (i) developments and trends in U.S. and global data protection and privacy law, and (ii) online, mobile and other emerging technologies and their effect on data security and privacy
- Assist lawyers in evaluating the impact of privacy laws, regulatory guidance and enforcement actions
- Prepare terms of use, privacy statements and terms and conditions for various business initiatives
- Prepare articles on current legal issues of interest for the Company’s online magazine and lunch and learn presentations for attorneys and business
- Assist with other corporate transactions as they arise

Qualifications

- Juris Doctor from an ABA-approved law school
- Member (in good standing) of the New York State Bar
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive law firm or in-house legal experience with large corporate entities
- Proficient knowledge in the areas of commercial transactions, technology contracts, data security and privacy
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams (within the Legal Division, throughout various Canon U.S.A. businesses and affiliates, and with personnel at varying levels)
- Proven capacity to manage numerous projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
- CIPP/US certification preferred; knowledge of HIPAA a plus
